In the 1920s, women changed completely in society. Women were finally allowed to vote in 1920. The movement for women’s suffrage began in colonial times but finally in 1920, women were allowed to vote. Some people weren’t on board with women’s suffrage, but women still worked hard for the chance to vote. People told them that they will too pure to be involved with politics, but they thought they could take it on. They wanted their representation in government and they didn't stop until they got what they wanted. With women finally being able to vote, women got this new found confident and independence. Women finally got better job opportunities but still had discrimination at work. The social lives of women is what changed the most. The 1920s created the “new woman”, the flapper. Women were now stylish with their short hair and short skirts. They drove cars, smoke cigarettes, and even played sports. Even though, women in the 1920s are seen as flappers, only a small percentage of the women in the 1920s were actually flappers. Women changed completely in the 1920s and really changed the path of women for the future.
