Consumerism in the 1920s

As more products and technologies came out, commumerism started to become a big part of the 1920s. Back in the 1920s, radio was everythng. Ball games, news, advertisments, etc were all played on the radio. Silent movies and what people called "talkies" also came out in the 1920s. The 1920s is known for the birth of the American auto industry. This industry gave many jobs to the working class. When Henry Ford came out with his model T, people went crazy for it. Everyone wanted the next big thing. As companies began to notice that, companies began to use the strategy of planned obsolescene. Planned obsolescene is the idea of making old products no longer reveleant. This makes people want to have the new bigger thing. As more products came out, adverstising became big. Companies would put their ads in magazines, newspapers, billboards, radio, etc. Companies targeted women with their slogans, jingles, and celebrities.
